ABOUT THE PROJECT

We are students undertaking Certificate III in Information Technology (Software Applications) at Anutech Education Centre. After achieving a level of proficiency in project management, we felt that as a team we had the combined skills base to take on a community Web site project. We took the opportunity of creating the International Year of the Volunteer 2001 Web site on behalf of Volunteering ACT. Although initially the project sounded ambitious, it was seen by the team as both feasible and achievable within the remaining six weeks of the course.

This project has had a four-pronged effect:
It has given the students an opportunity to work on real-life work skills incorporating all aspects of project management
It has given the Volunteering ACT a voice to the greater community not only in Australia but also to the rest of the world
It has been the catalyst in the development of Community Act which is a non-profit community web hosting service
It has given the students who are long-term unemployed or who come from diverse cultural backgrounds an opportunity to update their skills in cutting edge technology in the IT industry most importantly, it has been a starting point for a project that will be of great benefit to the communitybeneficial to the community.ABOUT THE TEAM

These are the team members who have jointly created this Web site. Each has given a brief account of their involvement and motivation behind the project.
