WHO VOLUNTEERS?

All sorts of people become volunteers for all sorts of reason. Age has no barrier. Volunteers work in sport, culture, heritage, community, arts, health, the environment, science and technology … just about anything!

Coaching a kids’ netball team, managing the school football team, working the school canteen, helping out at a fete, working in the library or driving a community bus are only some of the activities volunteers do.

Volunteers at the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games are the public face of Australia.

Volunteers will help ensure that visitors leave with a positive view of our country.

Volunteers play a vital role within our community.

They are individuals, families, students, unemployed or retired.

Volunteering is not only helping others, but it is gaining and learning practical experience, applying new skills and making new friendships.

International Year of Volunteers is designed to enhance the recognition of volunteer service, with particular emphasis on activities at a local level. These activities are a valuable opportunity to increase awareness and encourage growth in the volunteer sector.

Volunteering is not only an opportunity to help others, but explore different career options and become involved in the community.
